Consulting: The Other Career Option
Interest in consulting as a career option has exploded since the COVID-19 pandemic showed us that “WFH” is a realistic (and often preferred) mode of working. Have the past few years made you curious about what it takes to make the transition from full-time employment to consulting? This presentation will begin with a highlight of five signs that consulting might be a viable career option for you! We will than transition into a discussion of hard vs. soft skills and taking a personal inventory of your core skill set as it relates to a consulting career. All employers seek hard and soft skills in their candidates; however, soft skills for consulting are mandatory and are sometimes more crucial than hard skills! Consulting is NOT for everyone! Do you have what it takes to be happy and successful as a consultant?
Speaker Biography
As President & CEO of Paracelsus, Inc., Grace has been providing professional toxicology services to the pharmaceutical industry as an independent consultant since 2007. With a shiny new PhD in her hip pocket, Grace began her professional career in Cincinnati as a divisional toxicologist in Procter & Gamble’s Health Care Sector (1992-1994). In 1994, after realizing that the P&G position wasn’t the right fit for her, Grace migrated to San Diego to accept a position as sole toxicologist with DepoTech Corporation (now Pacira Pharmaceuticals, Inc.), where she was instrumental in building the preclinical development group (1994-1999). Grace’s first opportunity to explore independent consulting came unexpectedly in early 1999 as a result of corporate restructuring and a concurrent lack of professional prospects within the San Diego area. Later that same year, an attractive position within Agouron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. lured Grace back into industry. Through a subsequent series of mergers and acquisition, the Agouron opportunity developed into the position Grace held within Pfizer’s Global R&D division through 2006. In late 2006, Grace founded Paracelsus, Inc. and became its first (and only!) employee. Paracelsus commenced conducting business as a corporate entity in January 2007. Grace’s area of professional expertise relates to regulatory toxicology as applied to development of novel small molecule therapeutics across a wide range of therapeutic areas.
